RequestDesk's WordPress Module Strips Spam Links From Comments

Comment spam follows a pattern. Someone leaves a paragraph that sounds almost like a real reply, then tucks a link (or a whole fake business name) in as the payoff. Approve the comment and you've handed out a free backlink to a site you've never heard of.

The RequestDesk WordPress Module now stops that automatically.

What the module does

The RequestDesk WordPress Module connects your site to RequestDesk: SEO and AEO scoring, schema generation, a headless API for JAMstack frontends, and a publishing pipeline that turns RequestDesk-generated content into WordPress posts and pages. It's the bridge between your brand voice and your site.

Comment moderation is part of that same job. Your site's comments are part of your content too, and a wall of spam links undermines the same trust the rest of your content is built to earn.

We value real comments. We don't value comments that exist to plant a link.

So when a comment gets approved, on this site or any site running the module, RequestDesk checks it for anything link-shaped and removes it before the comment goes live:

  • A real link gets removed entirely, tag and text both. Nothing else in the comment changes.
  • If a Claude API key is connected, a second pass catches what a simple filter can't: bare URLs, and disguised domains like "example dot com."
  • A commenter who sets their name to a domain instead of an actual name (a common spam trick, since a lot of themes turn the name into a link) gets swapped for a neutral placeholder, and the link behind it gets cleared too.

None of this touches what a person actually wrote. A comment with no links in it stays exactly as written, and if the AI pass fails or times out for any reason, the comment still gets approved either way. Comment moderation was never going to wait on an API call.

It's off by default. Turn it on under RequestDesk > Settings > Plugin Settings, in the same place you manage everything else the module does for your site.
